Founded by Stavros Dritsas in 2020, The City of London Soloists is a string chamber orchestra comprised of London’s finest young musicians. Mostly playing without a conductor, it takes its cue from other ensembles that have broken down the artificial barrier between performers and audience, by rethinking the roles of each; we choose repertoire, venues and collaborators that reflect our love for classical music combined with our role as a 21st century ensemble.

With a flair for innovative programming and an interdisciplinary approach, Stavros has devised and performs in the following seasons the following themes concerts:
2023 marks the birth centenary of Maria Callas, and Stavros pays tribute to the legendary Greek soprano with an opera-inspired recital of works by Chopin, Liszt, Thalberg, including his own transcriptions on arias that Callas sang in her illustrious career.
An eclectic programme of dances from different countries and eras, ranging from Bach to Bartok and Ravel to Ginastera.
A more intimate selection of music inspired by the salon concerts of the romantic era, with works by Schubert, Chopin, Elgar, and Mendelssohn.
Stavros has devised a recital that is drawn by the night’s shadows, the morning light, and everything in between, performing nocturnal music by Chopin, Bartok, Saint Saëns-Liszt’s Dance Macabre, ending with Beethoven’s Waldstein (“Dawn”) Sonata.
The revival of Schubertiade celebrates the music of Franz Schubert, putting together an eclectic selection of the composer’s finest piano solo, vocal, and chamber works.
Tchaikovsky’s miniature cycle Seasons is paired with relevant poetry, recited by an actor. A kaleidoscope through the months of the year through music and narrative.
